The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 656

How could Carola say something like that?

It was only then that Doreen truly realized just how badly her daughter had been influenced while she and her husband were away.

Carola clutched the corner of her quilt, her knuckles turning white. “What good is it if he’s a great guy? I don’t even like him!”

“But feelings can grow over time!” Doreen pleaded. “Your grandfather and my father pushed your father and me together, and we turned out just fine, didn’t we?”

Carola covered her ears, pretending not to listen. “If you want to marry him so badly, you can do it yourself. I’m not doing it!” she retorted. “I won’t marry him unless you want me dead!”

“Carola!” Doreen’s face paled, and her voice shot up. “Do you have any idea what you’re saying?”

Carola turned her face away, refusing to speak, as silent tears streamed down her cheeks.

Seeing her like this, Doreen felt a mix of anger and heartache. In the end, all she could do was let out a long sigh. “Just think about it some more.”

She got up and left, closing the door a little too forcefully. The sharp slam made Carola’s shoulders tremble.

The room fell back into silence. Carola slowly slid back under the covers, burying her face in her pillow and sobbing quietly.

Downstairs in the living room, Hollis saw his wife descending the stairs with a grim expression and hurried to meet her. “How did it go? Is Carola willing to eat?”

Doreen shook her head, massaging her temples wearily. “That child… she’s getting more stubborn by the day.”

Hollis frowned. “We can’t let this go on. We have to find a solution.”

Doreen hesitated for a moment before whispering, “Maybe… we should ask Kian to come over?” Perhaps if Carola met him in person, she wouldn’t be so resistant.

Hollis mulled it over and nodded. “Alright. Let’s let the young people talk it out themselves. Maybe that will change things.”
