The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 65

He felt that Leilani truly lacked class; growing up in the countryside made her completely different from Tamara, whom they had carefully cultivated. He thought of how Leilani had become as hard and cold as a stone since getting out of prison. She was nothing like the shy, foolish girl from before.

Thinking of what they had done to her, Hackett and Zadie exchanged a look. Their thoughts aligned. They suspected this country bumpkin might have actually stumbled into luck and latched onto the Langley family. That girl hated them with a passion; if she really married Callahan... what good would they get out of it?

No, they had to stop Leilani from further contact with the Langleys!

"She thinks she's untouchable now," Hackett sneered. "Social climbing and refusing to recognize her own family."

Zadie hugged Tamara, heartbroken. "Tamara, don't be sad. She's not worth your tears."

Tamara leaned into her mother's embrace, nodding gently, enjoying the undivided attention of her parents.

But a trace of unwillingness flashed in her eyes. Why could Leilani connect with the Fulton family? She was a low-class ex-convict who had spent four years in prison! Why did people still treat her so well?
