The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 43

Milford rubbed his temples and said to the doctor, “It’s fine now. You can all leave.”

Once they were alone, Tamara asked tentatively, “Milford, did Leilani... install an alarm system in your sister’s room?”

Milford’s expression darkened. “Yeah.”

Tamara feigned shock. “How could she do that? I know Leilani probably meant well for Yvonne, but... isn’t this clearly saying she doesn’t trust the Sherwoods?”

Tamara covered her mouth as if realizing she misspoke.

“Milford, don’t take what I said to heart. I was just speaking without thinking. We should thank Leilani. After four years in prison, she’s probably just terrified something might happen to Yvonne, so she’s being extra cautious.”

Milford didn’t speak, but his gaze grew colder. The sliver of goodwill he had felt toward Leilani for helping Yvonne vanished instantly.

Tamara made a valid point. Leilani had crossed a line. Even if it was for Yvonne’s safety, she should have informed him first! Keeping him in the dark? Did she think she was the only one who actually cared about Yvonne?

Observing his expression, Tamara rejoiced inwardly and added fuel to the fire. “Milford, don’t be angry. I’m sure Leilani didn’t do it on purpose.”

Milford said coldly, “I’ll talk to her.”

On the other side of town, Leilani had been studying late. Just as she was about to sleep, she received the alert from Yvonne’s room.

By the time Leilani arrived at the sanatorium, Tamara had already smoothed things over with Milford.
