The Officer's Runaway Wife and Secret Son novel Chapter 439

His eyes were bloodshot from the lack of sleep, and there were faint dark circles around them.

Looking at that smile, which wasn’t particularly handsome, the words that had been swirling in Clara’s mind suddenly lost their weight.

“Go take a shower,” she urged softly.

Rhys finished the warm water and turned toward the master bathroom.

Clara sat back down on the sofa.

Too much had happened today, one thing after another. The only thing that kept replaying in her mind was the encounter with Eric and his family at the hospital.

Running into them wasn’t entirely a surprise. After all, at a time like this, most of Brighton City’s prominent figures would show up.

But what made Clara uncomfortable was Margot’s state.

She was too calm.

It wasn’t normal.

Having known Margot for so many years, Clara knew that whenever Rhys was present, Margot would always adopt a frail demeanor, speaking softly and acting pitiful to evoke everyone’s sympathy, which in turn made Clara look aggressive.

It wasn’t that people couldn’t change.

When she first saw Margot after returning to Brighton City, Margot had already changed. Later, during their confrontation, while she wasn't hysterical or combative, there was still emotion in her eyes.

But today, when Margot stood there looking at her and Felix, and when she saw Rhys come downstairs to shield them, Margot could actually smile and say those things.

She showed no sign of hurt or breakdown in the face of Rhys’s coldness.

Clara didn’t believe for a second that Margot had truly let go.

Someone who had lived on medication and paranoia for so many years couldn’t just suddenly see the light.

As the thought arose, her encounter with Owen and his cryptic words about Rhys also came to mind.

There was definitely a connection between Owen and Margot.

So, was Margot’s behavior at the hospital today related to Owen?

When two people with bad intentions got together, nothing good could come of it.

She didn’t care what happened to Margot, but something just felt wrong.

Especially now that circumstances had changed. The Huntington family was about to be in turmoil, Rhys’s body needed rest and recovery, and most importantly, Felix was living with them now.
