The Officer's Runaway Wife and Secret Son novel Chapter 332

The bar was quiet, so the sound was jarring. Heads turned throughout the bar as conversation died down.

Clara turned her head and looked the man right in the eye.

Her gaze was cold and detached.

During her four years in Heron Bay, she had learned more than just how to raise a child and run a livestream. She had also learned how to deal with all sorts of people at the company.

"Are you deaf? I said, get lost."

Having been publicly humiliated, the man blustered, "Crazy bitch!"

He turned to leave, then pointed back at her. "You should watch yourself out here, little lady. Don't be so cocky. The roads are dark around here."

Clara ignored him, ordered another drink, finished it, and pushed open the door to leave.

The streetlights in the alley were dim. The man from earlier hadn't left. He was smoking with two other thuggish-looking men. When they saw her emerge, they exchanged a look, threw down their cigarettes, and started following her.

Clara had anticipated this. Her hand slipped into her purse and closed around a can of pepper spray.

She had encountered situations like this before.

In Brighton City, if a man so much as looked at her too long in a mall, Rhys would step in front of her, scaring him off.

Later, there was Noah. When a young guy at Winston Turner's company kept bothering her, Noah went there once, had a brief, smiling chat, and the man resigned the very next day.

But this wasn't Brighton City or Heron Bay. There was no Rhys, no Noah, not even a Simon Walker.

She only had herself.

The footsteps behind her grew closer, accompanied by lewd whistles.

"Hey, pretty lady, don't run off. Let's find somewhere else to get to know each other better."

A hand reached out to grab her shoulder.

Clara stopped and spun around.

Before the hand could touch her, she took a half-step back, whipped the pepper spray out of her bag, and pressed the nozzle, aiming at the face leaning toward her.

A sharp hiss.

"Agh! Fuck!"

The man screamed, clutching his eyes and doubling over.

The other two men froze, momentarily too stunned to advance, afraid they'd get a face full of spray too.
