The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1734

Caught up in the moment, Dorothy didn’t even realize how much she was giving away.

After she spoke, the officers exchanged a glance, then quietly got out their pens and paper, ready to make a record of everything.

“You…” Patricia gripped her cane tighter, tapping it on the floor with a sharp smack. Disappointment filled her voice. “Honestly, you’re hopeless.”

Matthew and Lavinia just frowned, staying silent. They both knew Dorothy could be reckless, but this was on a whole other level. Hiring someone to go after a young girl… no one expected things to get this out of hand.

There was no way to deny it anymore. With witnesses and evidence stacked against her, Dorothy could only force a bitter smile and speak up, her voice slow and tired. “Yes. I was involved.”

Daniel felt like someone had punched all the air out of his chest. Even though he’d suspected it all along, hearing Dorothy admit it out loud was something else entirely.

It was her. It really was her.

“Shirley wasn’t just refusing to leave Andrew… she was turning him against me. Against his mother.” Dorothy’s voice broke as old pain and fresh tears crossed her face. “Ever since she showed up, no one in this family even sees me anymore.”

She swallowed hard, the words spilling out. “Even my husband, the man who used to love me most, is always on her side. He stands up for her, talks for her, and now he wants a divorce because of her. People laugh at me. They look down on me, all because of Shirley.”

Daniel’s jaw tightened. His heart ached.

“I couldn’t stand it,” Dorothy whispered, her whole body taut with regret. “So I tried to scare Shirley off.”

Tears kept coming. She clenched her fists, trying to steady herself. “I didn’t really mean what I said about wanting her to lose a leg or an eye. That was just me lashing out, hoping it would be enough to make her leave Andrew on her own.”
