Charlotte leaned back, a puzzled look on her face.

Kenneth nodded, repeating, “That blind idiot.”

Charlotte lifted her gaze, a faint smile curving her lips. “Need a hand?”

“It’ll take hacking into a system,” Kenneth said, studying her for a moment before answering.

Charlotte was good at a lot of things. He’d heard she was handy with a computer, too. But being computer savvy and actually hacking into a system were two very different things. Even a pro hacker would need some time to pull it off. No way she could help. It would just be a waste of her energy.

“You can’t help. Focus on taking care of yourself and the baby,” Kenneth said, slipping his phone into his coat pocket, his tone serious.

Hans just stared, baffled. The top hacker in the world couldn’t help? Kenneth really had no clue who Charlotte was.

“Alright,” Charlotte replied with a little smile, dropping the subject.

Later that evening, Charlotte lounged against her headboard, texting back and forth with her comic company’s boss about the contract.

Charlotte: [I’ll take a look, but you guys go ahead and make the final call.]

Lately, her morning sickness had been brutal. She barely had the energy to think about her comic. The company mentioned the actress interested in her story was a trending star, talented and gorgeous. And the offer came with a bigger copyright fee. An extra million could build another Hope Primary School. Why not?

She hit send, but after a long while, there was still no reply. Just as she started to wonder if something was wrong, a warning flashed on her screen: Your phone is being hacked.

Charlotte frowned. She tapped her screen quickly, her fingers flying over the keyboard interface. In less than half a minute, she’d shut down the intrusion. At the same time, the hacker’s own system crashed completely.

Across town, Kenneth stood by a desk, a cigarette hanging from his lips, arms crossed.
