The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1395

Imperial Heights.

Charlotte lounged on the sofa in an oversized trench coat, a pillow hugged tight against her chest as she focused on her game. The sharp pop of virtual headshots rang out again and again. Not far away, the maids tried to make themselves invisible, shooting anxious looks at Helen.

“Charlotte’s in a terrible mood today, isn’t she?” one of them whispered, barely moving her lips.

Helen glanced over, her brow creasing. There was no “seems” about it. Charlotte had been sulking all day. Even Anthony was giving her a wide berth.

“Don’t go poking your nose in,” Helen murmured, tugging lightly at the maid’s ear. She pressed her voice low, a clear warning. “Seriously, don’t bring up Kenneth if you want to keep the peace.”

Everyone in the house knew what had set her off. Charlotte had seen the news that morning. Since then, dark clouds had stuck to her like glue. She was probably worried about Kenneth.

“He’s just so handsome,” one maid gushed, her cheeks going pink. “There’s no way this story is true. Kenneth has excellent taste. Why would he ever fall for someone like Adela?”

Adela’s entry into show business had been explosive. Right out of the gate—a leading role, legendary director, a star-studded cast. She had that sweet, innocent face, but the look in her eyes practically screamed ambition. Too calculating, if you asked any of them.

And then there was her so-called mysterious background. Adela’s social skills were a disaster, and the public seemed genuinely allergic to her.

“Seriously,” another maid said in a hushed voice. “I voted against them online. Couldn’t help myself.”

“If Kenneth has to be with someone, let it be Emily,” a third said with a little nod, grinning as she gave a thumbs-up. “Emily shines on screen, Kenneth sings the theme song. That’s the dream team.”

“They’re perfect together!”
