“You really don’t want to know?” Charlotte sat up, her eyebrow arched in playful challenge as she looked at Anthony. A teasing smile lingered on her lips.
“No.” Anthony was half-kneeling, slipping Charlotte’s shoes on with gentle hands. His voice was low and rough. “As long as they’re yours, nothing else matters.”
G5 had already said it was probably going to be two boys anyway.
“Whatever you say.” Charlotte’s smile widened as she glanced over at the doctor, who seemed lost in thought. “It’s fine. Even if it’s two boys, Anthony would still be happy.”
Anthony didn’t say anything.
The doctor looked just as speechless.
“Thanks for today,” Charlotte said, reaching out to take Anthony’s hand. She squeezed it, firm but gentle. “What, did I say something wrong?”
“You’re right,” Anthony answered, giving her hand a squeeze back. He tried to smile, but the disappointment in his voice was obvious.
Men could act tough all they wanted, but deep down, they were just as soft as anyone else.
They left the ultrasound room together, and just then, the reports finished printing.
As the doctor glanced at the results, a smile crept across her face, though she still looked a bit confused. Did Anthony actually prefer a daughter or a son? He seemed too nervous to even look at the results himself. With Nine’s skill, she must have known already. Had she kept it from Anthony too?
The doctor carefully unfolded the report, snapped a photo of the results with her phone, and sent it to Charlotte.
She added a note: Nine, you’re having one of each!
