The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 465

Petty was propped up against the headboard. "Thank you," she rasped.

Her gaze swept over Malcom's hand, clad in a black stretch glove, resting by his side.

She turned to Aaron. "I just threw up all the medication. Aaron, could you please go to the nurses' station and get me another dose?"

Aaron nodded and immediately hurried out of the room.

Petty's face was deathly pale. The moment she closed her eyes, another wave of nausea hit her. She rolled over, dry heaving over the edge of the bed.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Malcom stepping forward with his crutch. Mimicking Aaron's earlier gesture, he gently patted her back. Once the bout of sickness passed, he held her shoulders and guided her back against the pillows.

Just as he straightened up, Petty suddenly seized his wrist. She gripped him with everything she had, her cold fingers trembling uncontrollably.

Her eyes, bloodshot from retching, locked onto his dark brown gaze.

"A loving couple, To Pull the Cart as One."

It was the idiom that inspired her name.

"Who..." Her voice was dry and broken. "Who are you really?"

Even through his clothes, she could feel the hard tension of the muscles in his arm.

Beneath the brim of his baseball cap, the man's dark eyes shifted.

"Is your name really Malcom?"

Before the accident, she had planned to become a freelance reporter. When trying to come up with a pen name, she had split the characters of her own name, and to her absolute horror, the resulting syllables perfectly matched the name 'Malcom'.

If tragedy hadn't struck, she would have already confronted him.

Was that really his name?

It hit her now. The words of comfort he had offered her yesterday—there were only a handful of people in the entire world who knew the origin of her name.

Her illness made her unstable, her mind constantly clouded with a thick fog. But at this moment, she was terrifyingly lucid.

The man standing before her, the one who had taught her close-combat and how to shoot a gun, understood her far too well.
