The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 439

The statement? It was just one of his lies.

“You want to save Petty, right? Then do it. Right here, right now, post on social media. Tell everyone that you and Petty are getting divorced soon. Tell them you never loved her.”

Before Franco could say anything, Petty let out a small, bitter laugh from where Laura held her. “Laura, you’re honestly ridiculous.”

“Shut up!” Laura snapped, voice sharp and shaking.

Petty didn’t stop. “Franco and I only ever had a fake marriage certificate. We were never really married, so how could we even get a divorce?”

The corners of Petty’s mouth twisted in mockery. Franco’s dark eyes locked on her, his hand clenched around the gun, frozen in place. The cold metal pressed against her head, making the broken skin sting, but Petty didn't flinch. Her mind was fixed on Laura, still searching for a way out.

Laura sucked in a shaky breath. “Is she telling the truth?” She turned her wide, desperate eyes on Franco.

His voice was icy. “Yes.”

Laura burst out laughing, tears streaming down her face even as she laughed. If this had happened before, she might’ve been happy—happier than anyone. Back then, she would have believed she’d finally won, that she could be the luckiest person in the world.

Now, facing the truth, all she could see was the way Franco looked at Petty, the way nothing could ever break that bond—something she’d never have, no matter how hard she tried or how long she lived.

Just how deep was Franco’s love for Petty, that he’d go along with a fake marriage just to be by her side?

“Why does he love you that much?” Laura’s hand trembled as she moved the gun from Petty’s temple to press tightly against her neck.

Franco lifted his pistol and aimed straight at Laura, his jaw clenched. Thoughts of Abacus—small, fragile, lying in the hospital bed—flashed through his mind.

Abacus was still waiting, still hoping Laura would save him.

Laura’s whole body shook violently. Her voice broke apart, her words tumbling out in a frantic, senseless rush. “Why, Petty? Why does he love you so much? Why do you get to have all of his love when you two are supposed to be enemies? Why don’t you just die?”

“I even had someone poison you! You were supposed to die!”
