In the dead of night, Galen sat vigil by Franco's bed. This family of three was going to be the absolute death of him.
Worrying about one, worrying about the other—it was an endless cycle of panic.
If a semi-conscious Petty hadn't muttered that it hurt as they were being wheeled out of the ER that evening, prompting Franco to finally loosen his grip so the doctors could separate them, he'd be babysitting both of them in the same room right now.
It truly was a never-ending nightmare of stress.
"Hey, don't move!" Catching movement from the corner of his eye, Galen preemptively lunged forward, slamming both hands down on Franco's shoulders.
He had to use both hands because Franco was freakishly strong. Even half-dead, Galen wasn't confident he could pin him down.
Franco's eyes were still bloodshot, the whites traced with broken red vessels. His dry, pale lips parted.
"Where is she?" his voice was completely wrecked.
"She's fine. She woke up once, drank half a glass of water, ate a little something. Temp is normal, BP is normal, heart rate is normal. And most importantly, she is still in the hospital. She hasn't left."
Galen rattled off Petty's status in one breath, making sure to heavily emphasize the most crucial detail.
"She hasn't left. She's right there in her room."
Of course, Amy was the one who had relayed all this to him, specifically so he could reassure Franco the moment he woke up.
Got to admit, that girl was pretty solid.
After updating him on Petty, Galen let out a massive sigh of relief. "So do me a favor and behave. Stop trying to give me a heart attack, alright? You hear about people dropping dead from stress all the time, and I am not looking to join them."
"Where is Jay?"
"Keeping an eye on Petty for you," Galen replied, tucking the blankets in around him like an overbearing mother. "Now just rest. Go to sleep."
But Franco had zero intention of sleeping. Instead, he demanded, "Bring me the wheelchair."
"What the hell are you trying to do now?!" Galen exploded.
Franco's voice was gravelly. "I'm going to see my son."
