These days, Joseph was completely in charge of taking care of Chaim.
At night, Chaim slept on his side of the bed, and Joseph was the one handling any midnight wake-ups.
Vivica had been feeling fine, but the moment he mentioned it, a huge yawn escaped her. She spoke in a groggy voice, "No discomfort, I'm just so sleepy."
"Then take a nap. I'll wake you when we get to the hotel," he said, turning to give her a gentle smile.
Vivica really did want to sleep, so she adjusted her seat to a comfortable angle, murmured in agreement, and closed her eyes.
Over at the hotel, Raymond had gotten Vivica's call that afternoon. Hearing that they were invited to the Baird estate for a family dinner to formally meet the parents, he immediately informed the two older women.
After a nap, Hillary's energy had returned a bit. The moment she heard they were meeting the in-laws tonight, the nerves set in.
They had packed in a hurry and only brought a couple of outfits.
Feeling that nothing she brought looked quite right, she dispatched Cheryl to the nearest mall to buy her a brand-new ensemble.
Now, Hillary was dressed in a striking, elegant modern suit in a deep navy blue, paired with a classic pearl necklace. Her hair was perfectly styled in a neat updo, and with a touch of light makeup, she looked completely revitalized and radiant.
"You look fantastic. When Vivica sees you, she might not even recognize you," Cheryl teased, knowing her sister was a bundle of nerves.
Hillary looked at her reflection in the mirror, looking quite satisfied. But after admiring herself for a moment, she sighed softly. "It's a shame Hayes couldn't be here. I'm meeting the in-laws all on my own."
Cheryl shot back, "Am I not enough backup for you?"
Looking at her sister, Hillary quickly backpedaled. "Right, right, thank goodness I have you."
Cheryl encouraged her, "Walk in there with your head held high. At the end of the day, it's Vivica they cherish, not us. If they respect Vivica, you need to stand tall. Stop putting yourself down."
In her prime, Hillary had been a formidable iron lady in the business world.
