The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 547

Shortly after Vivica's car pulled away, her phone rang.

"Hey, Quintina."

"Vivica, I just pulled out of the underground parking garage. I drove past the mall entrance and saw Loretta standing on the curb. Don't tell me she cornered you again!"

Quintina's tone was tight with anxiety, clearly worried that Loretta was giving her friend a hard time again.

A helpless sigh escaped Vivica's lips as she replied lightly, "She did. She must have been watching from the shadows the whole time, waiting until I was about to leave before showing her face."

"What did she want? Is she seriously not giving up? Was she trying to extort money from you again?"

"She said she wanted to give Chaim some holiday cash, but I didn't take it. Right as my car arrived and I was leaving, she finally blurted out that Fletcher is in trouble."

"What kind of trouble? Is he being hunted down by loan sharks or something?"

"You watch way too much television," Vivica chuckled, shaking her head. "He sold his company before the holidays. He should have paid off most of his debts. But according to her, he took out another bank loan to launch a new startup and got caught in an investment scam. They took him for everything."

Before Vivica could even finish, Quintina gasped in shock.

"Now he's completely ruined. Apparently, he locks himself in his apartment every day, practically living like a zombie."

"Karma!" Quintina couldn't help but gloat. "I bet he's regretting everything now! He really thought his previous success was all his own doing. He completely ignored the fact that the market was booming back then, not to mention he had you working your ass off to help him. The industry has been brutally competitive lately; it's nothing like it used to be. Losing you meant losing his right hand. Dreaming of a comeback? What a joke!"

Quintina hit the nail on the head.

Truthfully, when Vivica heard the story from Loretta, the exact same thoughts had crossed her mind.

She just hadn't voiced them.

If she had, Loretta wouldn't have believed her anyway and would have just accused her of inflating her own ego.

But if an outsider like Quintina could see the truth so clearly, how could Fletcher remain so blind?

"Maybe so, but none of it is my concern anymore."

"What did she want from you? Did she ask for a loan? Do not agree to that, Vivica. Lending him money is like throwing it into a black hole. He'll never pay it back. And even if he could, he'd just use paying you back as an excuse to harass you."

"She actually didn't ask for money. She probably knew I'd say no. She wanted me to go see him. To convince him to pull himself together."

Quintina let out a harsh bark of laughter. "That's even more ridiculous. That's a bigger ask than money."

"I know. I'm absolutely not going."

"Good. Do not let yourself feel sorry for him. Just think about how well Joseph treats you and your son. Keep your eyes on the future, live your best life, and never look back!"

After hanging up the phone, Quintina's words—"keep your eyes on the future, live your best life, and never look back"—echoed in Vivica's mind.

She gazed out the window, a renewed sense of resolve hardening in her eyes.

It was true. She had finally dragged herself out of the muddy hellscape of that marriage and severed ties with her parasitic family. There was no way she was ever turning back.

Glancing down at her son, a gentle smile graced her lips.

As if understanding her perfectly, Chaim beamed back at her.

Later that evening, Joseph wrapped up his work and returned to the family estate.
