A smile appeared on Hayes’s face. “There’s nothing to thank me for. We were in the wrong. Nothing we do can ever fully make up for it. It’s just a shame that in this useless state, I can’t take the boy out myself. Otherwise, I’d buy him whatever he wanted with my own hands.”
Vivica didn’t speak, but she felt a small sense of comfort. Regardless of how her biological parents had treated her in the past, their feelings for Chaim now seemed genuine. Perhaps that affection was mixed with guilt, but in the end, it was still more love directed at her son.
