The atmosphere was incredibly festive, bursting with joy and harmony. And because she was the newest member of the family, the stream of gifts was endless. Every time an older relative spotted her, they'd casually press a beautifully wrapped box into her hands.
At first, she tried to politely decline, but Melanie insisted it was family tradition and that she had to accept them.
That night alone, she raked in over thirty thousand dollars' worth of gifts—a sum that easily crushed what most average office workers made in a grueling year. She could only marvel once again that the ultra-wealthy truly existed in an entirely different dimension from regular people.
Chaim was even more thrilled. The little guy was dressed in a tiny, sharp tuxedo. He looked impossibly handsome and cute, like a perfect miniature gentleman.
He had also hauled in an absolute mountain of presents, excitedly dragging them over to his mom.
"Mommy, can you keep all these for me? I need to save them for my future wife." The innocent, matter-of-fact way he said it left Vivica staring at him with wide, stunned eyes.
Joseph burst into a deep, hearty laugh, scooping his son up into his arms.
"Chaim, who on earth told you that?" he asked, genuinely amused.
"Yara told me!" Chaim chirped. "She said when boys grow up and get a girlfriend, they have to buy her nice things. And when they get married, they have to buy their wife nice things, too!"
The "Yara" he was quoting was Joseph’s cousin's daughter—who was only four years old. It was wild that she already knew so much.
But honestly, her parents were raising her right. In any relationship, no matter the era, the man traditionally took on more of the financial providing, while women historically poured so much labor into other aspects of the partnership.
Given the immense wealth of the extended Baird family, if they didn't teach their daughters to expect to be treated well, they'd be prime targets for gold-digging losers down the line.
Vivica totally agreed with her son's logic, but she couldn't resist teasing him. "So you're only going to spend your money on your girlfriend and your wife? What about Mommy?"
She figured the little guy would immediately try to backpedal and include her. Instead, Chaim answered without missing a beat. "Mommy spends Daddy's money, obviously! Does Daddy not give you money to spend?"
