The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 389

"Okay, bye."

After hanging up, Vivica put down her phone and saw an unread message on WhatsApp. It was from Quintina, and she was clearly at her wit's end. She was ranting about a coworker who was constantly trying to switch her weekend shifts, always with a new excuse—either her kid was sick or an elderly relative was in the hospital.

"This morning, she came to me again, asking me to cover her shift this weekend. I said no, and she immediately got all weepy, asking how I could be so heartless. She said since I'm not married and don't have kids, I'm just alone on weekends anyway, so what's the big deal with helping out a colleague?"

"Seriously?! Is it a crime that I'm not married with kids? Does her being a wife and mother give her the right to exploit her coworkers? And then she has the nerve to guilt-trip me! I completely lost it and let her have it!"

The result of Quintina's outburst was a massive argument in the middle of their department that morning.

"What's even more infuriating is that this two-faced witch has connections, so the department head didn't dare do anything to her. Instead, he lectured me!"

"My dear, I'm so jealous of you," Quintina's message continued. "You found such a wonderful man in Mr. Baird, someone who protects you from everything. If I found a man like that, I'd get married in a heartbeat and quit this stupid job. Let someone else deal with this mess!"

Listening to her friend's voice messages, Vivica could feel the rage radiating through the screen. She knew that workplace drama was unavoidable and had heard Quintina complain about this particular colleague before, but she never imagined it would escalate into a full-blown fight.

Unsure of how to comfort her, Vivica could only advise her to try not to let it get to her, or perhaps look into transferring to another hospital or department.

Quintina sent another voice note. "In a place like this, every position is filled. It's not that easy to transfer. And I don't feel like going through the hassle and expense of pulling strings just for a change. Who knows what the new place will be like? What if it's full of its own freaks? Then I would have gone through all that for nothing."

That was a valid point. Vivica sighed, feeling frustrated that she couldn't do more to help her friend.

That evening, Vivica arrived at the hospital and sent Sheridan and Melanie home to rest. Her intention was for Joseph to go home as well—there was no need for both of them to spend the night in the hospital room. She had sent him a message, but he never replied.
