The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 387

Getting pregnant was indeed 'important business'—in fact, it was their top priority.

But even with the urgency of their goal, daily efforts weren't necessarily the answer. In fact, being too frequent could actually hinder conception. Vivica knew this, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything that might dampen Joseph's enthusiasm, so she let him take the lead.

Truthfully, a part of her was beginning to develop a taste for their intimacy. She wasn’t sure if it was her own latent passion awakening or simply a testament to Joseph's skill and attentiveness to her needs. Whatever the reason, she found she didn't resist it at all. More often than not, she enjoyed it immensely.

Afterward, Joseph would habitually pull her into his arms. His broad frame enveloped her, making her feel an incredible sense of security, as if she were tucked away inside an impenetrable fortress. She was growing more and more attached to his embrace.

...

The next morning, they got up and went about their separate routines. By the time they came downstairs, Zelda and Laura already had breakfast on the table.

"We have plenty of time. Let's eat before you go," Joseph said to her.

"Okay, that works," she agreed. The commute from his house was actually shorter than from her old apartment, so there was no rush.

They sat down, and as they ate, Joseph looked at her. "Have you decided? Are you going to see them today?"

He had deliberately avoided the topic last night, not wanting her to lose sleep over it. After their lovemaking, they had both fallen into a deep, exhausted slumber. Now, over breakfast, was the only time to discuss it.

Vivica had been wrestling with the question while getting ready. Normally, a night of passion left her sleeping soundly, but last night had been filled with chaotic dreams. One moment, she was being whipped with a clothes hanger by Evelyn. The next, Zebulon was demanding money, threatening to throw her out and screaming that she was a worthless, unwanted burden. Then, the scene shifted, and she was hiding in a patch of tall grass as a large truck, designed for rounding up children, drove by. It scoured the streets for stray kids to be sold to traffickers. She had tried to shrink deeper into the grass, her hands clamped over her mouth to stifle any sound, but a large hand had grabbed her anyway and tossed her into the back of the truck.

Even now, the memory made her shudder.

Joseph noticed her sudden tremor, though she hadn't said a word. His brow furrowed in concern.

"If you feel pressured to see them, then don't," Joseph said firmly. "Just pretend they don't exist."

The saying 'what you think about by day, you dream of by night' was clearly true in her case. If she was having nightmares about being abandoned and kidnapped, the psychological trauma was obviously severe. There was no reason for her to suffer just to fulfill someone else's wishes.

Vivica's mind cleared, and she made her decision. "I don't want to see them. And I don't want to go to Sydville, either."

"Fine," he said without hesitation. "Then we'll stay here with Chaim. If he's feeling well enough, we can take a trip somewhere nearby, make our own little vacation."

"Okay." Vivica gave him a soft smile, quickly finished her breakfast, and stood up. "I should get going. I'm worried about traffic."

Joseph had brought all his case files home last night, so they were already in his car. He didn't have to go to the firm this morning and could head straight to the courthouse after breakfast, so he wasn't in a hurry.
