The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 375

Joseph didn’t respond, his gaze fixed intently on Vivica.

Vivica stared back, her heart pounding in her chest. Was this his version of a confession? A promise to cherish her for the rest of their lives?

Quintina first covered her mouth, letting out a little squeal as if she’d just witnessed the most romantic scene ever. Then, she dropped her hand and asked curiously, “Mr. Baird, if she’s not crying from sadness, then what other reason could there be?”

At her question, a subtle change flickered across Joseph’s face. He averted his eyes and muttered, “Ask her.”

Quintina frowned and turned to her friend, pressing, “What does he mean?”

Vivica blinked, snapping back to reality. She remembered that night in the hospital bathroom. The intensity and novelty of the moment had been so overwhelming that she had ended up crying. Joseph, thinking he had been too rough and hurt her, had apologized profusely afterward. It wasn’t that; it was just that the peak of pleasure was a foreign, earth-shattering sensation she couldn’t process.

Being a mature man, Joseph had eventually figured it out and whispered something in her ear that had made her want to jump out of her skin from embarrassment.

And now, his simple “ask her”—seemingly a throwaway line—was devastatingly potent. The memory of that night exploded in Vivica’s mind, and her cheeks burned as hot as the cooked shrimp on the table.

Quintina watched her friend, who remained silent as a blush visibly crept up her face, spreading to her ears and neck. Suddenly, she understood.

“Oh my god! I think I get it now,” Quintina exclaimed, her own face flushing as she pounded the table with one hand, trying to suppress her laughter.

Vivica wanted to crawl under the table and hide. “Quintina… please don’t break the table.”

Quintina composed herself, sitting up straight. “Can you blame me? We were having a perfectly normal conversation, and suddenly you two take things straight to the gutter.”

“You’re the ones who started this topic,” Joseph replied, as calm as ever.

Harvey raised his glass. “Right, right, my fault. I started it. I’ll drink to that as an apology.” He chuckled and downed the contents of his glass.

That evening was the most relaxed and carefree Vivica had felt in months. It was so pleasant that she forgot all her worries and sorrows, as if her life was finally on a smooth road to happiness.

However, the sweet and bitter moments of life always come in turns. Moments of happiness are rare, often overshadowed by trouble and pain, which is what makes them so precious when they arrive.

After dinner, Roderic came to pick them up.

Harvey had had too much to drink and was swaying on his feet. He grabbed Vivica’s arm, slurring his words. “Vivica… I’m so grateful to you for taming this monster. He’s got nothing but money and a ton of bad habits. Please be patient with him.”

Joseph, returning from the restroom, heard this and unceremoniously pulled his friend away. “Who said you could call her Vivica? It's Mrs. Baird to you.”
