The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 362

“What are you talking about? You’re my daughter-in-law. If there’s something you can’t handle, it’s my job to step in and help. That’s what family does.”

Vivica hadn’t even thought of it that way. She could hear Sheridan saying something in the background but couldn’t make out the words.

Melanie relayed the message. “Sheridan says that when a person reaches that point, all grudges should be put aside. It’s right for Chaim to go see him. As the former daughter-in-law, it’s better for you to stay away to avoid any awkwardness.”

“Okay. Thank you both so much.”

“Leave it to us.”

Vivica hung up the phone and let out a long breath.

What a day. It had started with passion, moved on to pure joy, and now, by lunchtime, she was confronted with the sorrow of mortality.

Back at her desk, Holly’s eyes went wide as she spotted the ring. She grabbed Vivica’s hand in awe. “Wow, how many carats is that? I wouldn’t even dare buy a fake one that big!”

Still reeling from the morning’s events, Vivica managed a faint smile. “That’s because it is fake.”

“Huh? No way!”

“Really, it’s fake,” Vivica repeated, the words feeling like a tongue twister.

Thankfully, the assistant manager came over to assign tasks, and Holly scurried back to her desk. Vivica pushed her personal life aside and focused on her work.

...

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Sheridan and Melanie were nothing if not thorough. They were willing to grant a dying man’s last wish, but that didn’t mean they’d go in unprepared. They brought bodyguards with them.

Fletcher had just returned to the hallway outside the ICU when they arrived with Chaim. At the sight of the boy he once called his son, the now-destitute Fletcher felt an unexpected warmth swell in his chest, and tears pricked his eyes.

“Does it hurt?” he asked softly.

Chaim shook his head. “Not now. Only when they put the needle in.”

“You’re so brave, Chaim,” Fletcher praised him. “When you get better, Daddy will take you out to play.”

Watching the scene unfold, Sheridan felt a twinge of sadness. If only Fletcher had realized this sooner, none of this would have happened.

“Mr. Sanford,” he said, his tone cool as he interrupted the reunion. “We brought Chaim to see your father, so please make the arrangements. Chaim is still undergoing chemotherapy and shouldn’t be out and about for too long.”

Fletcher stood up, composing himself. “Right. I’ll just get Chaim into a sterile gown, and we can go in.”

Before coming, Sheridan had not only found out which hospital ward Dylan was in but had also spoken to the hospital administration. They had no reason to stand by the man’s deathbed, but they also didn’t trust leaving Chaim alone with Fletcher, even for a moment. So, Sheridan had arranged for medical staff to be present the entire time.
