The room was quiet, with dust motes dancing in the sunbeams, creating a scene of peaceful tranquility.
Vivica felt drowsy and had no desire to get up. Joseph lay behind her, gently brushing a strand of hair from her temple before leaning in to kiss her and knead her shoulder.
Vivica felt it all, but she didn't dare move or respond. She was terrified Joseph would ask her how she felt, so she kept her eyes shut and played ostrich, burying her head in the sand to avoid the question.
But he didn’t ask. Instead, he teased, “How about we skip getting married today? We can always reschedule.”
What?
Vivica’s eyes flew open, and she turned to look at him. But the moment their gazes met, she quickly looked away, her cheeks flushing red again.
“No, I already took the day off. We have to go today, or I’ll have to request more time, and my boss will fire me,” she protested, closing her eyes to gather the strength to sit up.
Joseph’s grin widened. “Are you sure? You look like you can barely walk.”
“Who says?” Vivica mumbled, too shy to look at him.
“Alright, so you’re even more eager than I am,” the sated man said, clearly in a very good mood.
Vivica sat up, her back to him, and pulled on a robe before heading to the closet to get dressed. “Hurry up,” she urged him.
A little over ten minutes later, they were both dressed. Vivica immediately noticed he was wearing the suit she had bought for him, though he’d added a trench coat over it for the cold, making him look even more dashing and handsome.
Seeing her staring, Joseph smiled and spread his arms. “What? You don’t think this looks good?”
Vivica pressed her lips together, replying with a touch of pride, “I bought it. Of course it looks good.”
She glanced at the time; it was almost nine. She had to get to the office this morning, so there was no time for makeup. Fortunately, her cheeks were naturally flushed and her eyes were soft and alluring, making her look even more captivating than if she had worn any.
No wonder Quintina always said a good man was a powerful tonic. Now she finally understood what she meant.
