It was her ex-sister-in-law, Loretta Sanford.
Loretta was clearly dressed to impress, on a date with a middle-aged man. He didn't look too old, but he was exceptionally short and stout, resembling a walking fire hydrant.
Quintina slid into her seat and leaned in to whisper, “Is your ex-sister-in-law actually dating that guy?”
She wanted to say ‘fire hydrant’ but decided to be merciful.
Vivica had no idea. She hadn’t kept up with Loretta’s life at all. She vaguely remembered running into Loretta and her then-boyfriend at a shop when she was desperately selling her bags for Chaim’s medical bills. She had warned Fletcher that his sister’s boyfriend was bad news. It seemed they had broken up.
But after a breakup, shouldn’t you find someone better? Why was she with a middle-aged man who was so… unimpressive?
“Looks like Loretta’s dating down,” Quintina remarked, glancing over at them again. “That guy must be rich. I can’t imagine any other reason. How could you even bring yourself to kiss him?”
“Let’s not get into it. It’s none of our business,” Vivica said, wanting to avoid any drama. With Fletcher trying so hard to reconcile, she feared Loretta might try to stir up trouble.
But some things are unavoidable. Quintina gestured with her chin and gave a resigned smile. “You may not want to get involved, but it looks like trouble is coming to you.”
Vivica followed her gaze and frowned. Loretta was marching towards them, looking furious.
Vivica turned back to Quintina. “Let’s just eat somewhere else.” She was in a good mood and had no desire to deal with toxic people.
