The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 308

Joseph glanced at her, a faint smile playing on his lips as he drove. “I indirectly told him about Chaim’s connection to the Baird family,” he said. “He was pretty devastated.”

“What?” Vivica stared at him in disbelief, a knot of worry tightening in her stomach. “Why would you tell him that? Aren’t you afraid he’ll just go around telling everyone?”

He remained perfectly calm. “It was bound to come out sooner or later. Let him. I just don’t want him using the child as an excuse to bother you anymore. Knowing Chaim is a Baird by blood will only make him resent the situation more.”

Vivica fell silent, an unsettling feeling creeping into her heart. Fletcher was a petty man, and he was capable of anything when cornered. She couldn’t help but worry that, knowing Chaim’s true parentage, he might try to hurt the boy someday.

Sensing her unease, Joseph glanced back at her and offered a reassuring word. “I know what you’re worried about, but don’t be. Chaim is protected by the Baird family; he won’t be in any danger. Fletcher will just have to stomach the fact that the son he worked so hard to raise belongs to someone else. He won't be thinking about getting back together with you or fighting for custody anymore.”

His logic made sense, and Vivica started to relax. “Alright. Like you said, it was going to come out eventually,” she conceded, putting the matter out of her mind. In fact, picturing the look on Fletcher’s face when he found out was rather satisfying.

He was the one who had coerced her into the IVF procedure with a donor, claiming his dying mother needed to see a grandchild before she passed. Vivica had endured so much to bring Chaim into the world, only for it to end in betrayal. Now, Fletcher would know that Chaim had been reunited with his biological family, meaning all his efforts had been for another man’s benefit. He must be drowning in regret and fury. It was a fitting kind of karma.

...

Half an hour later, they arrived at Sherman's restaurant.

Sherman was no longer surprised to see Vivica. He even greeted them with a playful jab. “I never thought I’d live to see the day, but it looks like I might actually get to drink to Joseph’s wedding. What a world.”

Vivica blushed and glanced at Joseph without saying a word.

Joseph, however, was perfectly at ease. “If that day comes, Sherman, you’ll definitely be there.”

“Good. I’ll be waiting.”

Once they were seated in a private room, Vivica thought about Sherman’s words. “Are you really planning on having a wedding?” she asked hesitantly.

The Baird family was in a mourning period; hosting a celebration would be considered inappropriate.

Joseph’s expression grew a little somber. “It wouldn’t be right, so I’m afraid we’ll have to keep things simple for now.”

“That’s fine by me,” Vivica said, relieved at the thought of avoiding a big ceremony. “I completely understand. The priority right now is Chaim’s treatment. Everything else can wait.”

“I agree. But once Chaim is healthy and Lennon’s mourning period is over, we will have a proper wedding.”

While he wasn’t one for grand spectacles, he knew a wedding was the best way to announce their commitment to the world and was a fundamental show of respect for her. It had to be done.
