The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 271

“I’m just approaching this from a scientific perspective and offering a reasonable suggestion to ensure our plan goes smoothly,” Vivica explained, completely unabashed. “I never said you couldn’t have children. Why are you getting so defensive?”

“Vivica, you—”

In his entire arrogant, high-and-mighty life, Joseph had never had his masculine capabilities questioned. And now, he was facing this… humiliation.

Of course he was fertile—exceptionally so. That’s why that quack doctor, Harvey, had secretly kept a sample of his all those years ago, which had resulted in him unexpectedly becoming a father.

“What about me? I would think a highly educated intellectual like you, a man who understands the law and sees the bigger picture, wouldn’t be so hung up on some antiquated notion of male pride. But I guess you’re just as traditional as anyone else. Does a simple check-up really tarnish your masculine dignity?”

Vivica knew exactly what was bothering him, so she decided to spell it out even more clearly.

Joseph didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. This backhanded compliment, praising him while simultaneously cornering him, left him with no choice but to agree. “Fine. I’ll do it. I’ll go tomorrow.”

He had originally planned to video call so she could chat with Chaim, but her words had annoyed him so much that he didn't even bother with a call, instead hanging up abruptly.

Staring at her phone, Vivica muttered, “And now he’s furious out of embarrassment.”

After dinner, as she was leaving the restaurant, Vivica sent him a message.

[Are you guys asleep yet? I’m heading back to the hotel now, should be there in about fifteen minutes. We can video chat then if you’re up.]

Joseph was leaning against the headboard, arranging his appointment with Harvey for the next day. Beside him, Chaim was already fast asleep after two bedtime stories. The little guy was remarkably adaptable; he hadn't cried or made a fuss at all since his mother left.

Harvey had just told him, “Your quality doesn’t need checking, I’m sure it’s fine. But since you’re planning for another pregnancy, it can’t hurt to check.”
