Vivica felt as if she were on fire, her cheeks so hot they might as well have been steaming. "I'm… I'm just not used to it."
Because Fletcher had been impotent, this was the first time she had ever been this close to an aroused man.
"You'll get used to it in the future," Joseph added with a soft smile.
Deep down, he was pleased. He didn't mock her for her inexperience; in fact, he found her reaction utterly charming. It struck him then just how pitiable her situation had been. Four years of marriage, yet she had never experienced this, had never truly known a man's body. If Fletcher hadn't betrayed her, she might have been trapped in that lonely marriage for years more.
His words only flustered Vivica further. All she wanted was to escape, but Joseph wasn't about to let this rare moment of intimacy slip away. He tightened his arms, pulling her back against him.
"Have you thought about it? When are you ready to start?" he asked, pressing his advantage.
The question, coming on the heels of such a novel physical experience, sent her mind reeling back to the erotic dreams she'd been having about him lately. The thought of being that intimate with Joseph was just too…
As her mind filled with scandalous images, a sleepy voice pierced the silence. "Mommy, what are you and Uncle Joseph doing?"
Vivica jolted as if struck by lightning, springing from Joseph's lap. She hastily smoothed her hair and touched her face, trying to appear normal.
"Chaim, you're… you're awake already?" she asked, forcing a smile.
Chaim sat up and yawned. "Are you saying I shouldn't be awake, Mommy? I can go back to sleep if you want."
As the little boy started to lie back down, Vivica rushed to his side. "No, no, that's okay," she said, fumbling as she helped him with his shoes. "We need to get going. You still have to take your medicine."
Joseph stood nearby, watching her flustered attempts to put Chaim's shoes on. He stepped forward and knelt.
