Joseph strode forward, and the crowd in the hallway instinctively parted to let him pass. Dylan and Loretta took a nervous step back, their blustering demeanor shrinking in his presence.
"Who are you?" Dylan demanded, trying to sound brave. "What does my son's business have to do with you?"
Loretta leaned in and whispered, "Dad, that's Vivica's lawyer."
Joseph stopped, his gaze falling coldly on them. "Your son caused a disturbance in court yesterday and assaulted me. I'm the one pressing criminal charges against him."
"You're the one trying to send my son to prison?" Dylan's agitation grew as he understood who he was facing.
Vivica rushed to Joseph's side, her face etched with worry. "Your injuries are so severe. Why did you come here? I already called the police."
He glanced at her. "Calling the police will only solve today's problem. People like this will just keep coming back."
Vivica bit her lip. He was right. The Sanfords and Riley had nothing but time on their hands. They had focused all their energy on tormenting her. Even if the police took them away today, they couldn't stand guard at her apartment forever.
Having addressed Vivica, Joseph turned his attention back to Dylan. "Let's make a deal. I'll go easy on your son, and in return, you stop harassing her. How about it?"
"No!" Vivica exclaimed without a second thought. "You were hurt that badly. Why should you let him off the hook? I'd rather give up the house than let you suffer for nothing."
A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched Joseph's lips. "It's good to know you feel that way. It makes all my efforts worthwhile."
Roderic, standing nearby, shot his boss a knowing look.
