The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 182

“Good, just keep that in mind. Whether he’s acting tough or feeling regretful, you ignore him completely.”

“I will.”

After admiring the lavish gifts, Quintina turned to Vivica with a sly grin. “So, Mr. Baird literally threw himself in front of a weapon for you. Are you still going to tell me there’s nothing going on between you two?”

Vivica gave a weary smile. “There really isn’t. Today, Melanie tried to set us up, and he shut her down before she could even finish. Then when she wanted to make me her daughter, he objected to that too.”

Quintina frowned. “That’s odd. He doesn’t seem interested, yet he goes out of his way to protect and help you…”

It was a contradiction, and Vivica couldn’t make sense of it either.

Joseph didn’t show up for the rest of the afternoon or that evening. Vivica worried about his injuries, but a combination of hesitation and uncertainty kept her from reaching out.

As bedtime approached, she found she couldn’t stop thinking about him. After a long internal struggle, she finally worked up the courage to send him messages.

[How are you feeling? Is the pain bad?]

[I know you’re busy, but please try to get some rest. Your health is the most important thing.]

She sent the two messages in quick succession, then stared at the screen, counting the seconds as she waited for a reply.

A minute passed, then two, then five. Nothing.

Regret began to creep in. She shouldn’t have sent them. He probably didn’t even want to hear from her.
