“Nonsense. Don’t you listen to him,” Melanie said, shooting her son a sharp look. Her tone with Vivica, however, was loving but firm. “I want you to be my daughter. It has nothing to do with him. It’s not like he has to support you.”

Sheridan chimed in. “You’re divorced, raising a child alone, and your own family is no help. We… we lost our son. The pain never truly goes away. Joseph is always busy with work and doesn’t have time for us. If you became our daughter, and you and Chaim came to visit often, it would bring us so much happiness.”

His words touched Vivica’s heart. He was right. In a way, they could heal each other. They could both find the family they had lost.
