The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 166

Was he, the eldest son of the Baird family, really less appealing than some balding programmer? She had terrible taste in men—no wonder she ended up with a scumbag like Fletcher.

Zavier, for his part, was a victim of circumstance. The high-pressure world of software development, with its long hours and constant stress, had taken a toll. Though still young and unmarried, his hairline was indeed starting to retreat. But he was a genuinely good person.

He and Vivica chatted for a while, and he told her how her colleagues were all concerned and wished her a speedy recovery. Hearing this warmed her heart. The pain inflicted by her husband and family was being soothed by the kindness of strangers.

“Thank you, Zavier. And please thank everyone for me. As soon as I’m back on my feet, I’ll treat the team to dinner,” Vivica said with a genuine smile.

“Sounds great! We never even got to have a proper welcome lunch for you. When you’re back, it’s my treat. We’ll all celebrate.”

As they were laughing, the door swung open without a knock. Their smiles vanished.

Vivica was startled to see Joseph standing there, his face a mask of cold fury.

He strode in carrying a file, his presence radiating an icy chill. He looked like a husband who had just caught his wife in the act of cheating.

Zavier froze, instinctively rising to his feet as he sensed the man’s hostility. “Who is this?” he asked, glancing at Vivica.

Vivica, unsettled by Joseph’s intimidating glare, hesitated before replying. “He’s my—”

“The hearing isn’t until tomorrow. Isn’t it a bit premature to be discussing matters today?” Joseph cut in, his eyes fixed on Zavier with an intense, domineering pressure.

Vivica frowned, confused by his words. Zavier was equally baffled. “What hearing?” he asked.

Suddenly understanding, Vivica quickly turned to Zavier to explain, while also introducing him to Joseph. “This is my department head and a fellow alumnus from my university. He came on behalf of my colleagues to see how I was doing.”

Deciding it was best to be polite, Zavier extended his hand. “Hello, I’m Zavier Fulton, Vivica’s supervisor. And you are?”

Supervisor? What kind of male supervisor was this attentive to a female subordinate? Joseph gave him a disdainful look and pointedly ignored the outstretched hand.
