The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 142

“Alright, alright, I’m going!” Quintina waved cheerfully and disappeared.

Vivica turned to Joseph, her bruised face twisting into a pained smile. “Mr. Baird, my friend loves to joke around. Please… don’t take her seriously.”

“Do I seem like the type of person who would?” Joseph countered.

Vivica fell silent. She thought to herself, “Aren't lawyers the ones who fixate on every little detail?”

“They say birds of a feather flock together, so how come you don’t have any of Ms. Christie’s feisty spirit? You just let people walk all over you and end up like this.” As he spoke, Joseph’s eyes scanned her injuries, his brow furrowed in a tight knot.

Vivica was once again at a loss for words. Was that a compliment or an insult? And why did she think she saw a flicker of concern in his eyes?

She kept her thoughts to herself, not daring to ask him outright.

Soon, it was her turn to be seen. The doctor cleaned and disinfected all her scrapes and cuts. But when the doctor’s hands gently pressed on her back during the examination, she let out a sharp cry of pain that startled even Joseph.

“You have severe pain in your back. I recommend an X-ray; you might have a fracture,” the doctor advised, drawing on his experience.

Joseph, standing nearby, nodded without hesitation. “Then let’s get an X-ray.”

Roderic quickly returned with a wheelchair. Vivica looked at it, embarrassed. “That’s a bit much, isn’t it? I can walk.”

“By all means, let her walk,” Joseph said dryly. “It would be best if she aggravated the injury.”
