The Heiress They Couldn't Break (Amelia and Jeremy) novel Chapter 614

Paul had been a sly old fox. No one knew whether he had already sensed Esmond's hidden ambitions back then or if he had simply been overly cautious.

Either way, he and his wife had secretly transferred all their shares to Cora long ago, not even leaving any for their own children.

If those shares had gone to Sabrina or Floyd, everything would have been easy to deal with.

But Paul had refused to play by the rules.

Because of that, Esmond could not touch Cora now. He did not dare to, and he had no way to.

Cora was surrounded by hired security working in the shadows, and professional bodyguards followed her everywhere she went.

On top of that, she rarely went out at all. When she did, it was usually with the Currans or other women from powerful families.

Those women all traveled with their own entourages and security teams.

Cora never went anywhere alone, which made taking action against her extremely difficult.

More than once, Esmond had clenched his teeth in private, furious yet powerless.

He even suspected that his parents had made that decision precisely because they had foreseen his desire for the family fortune. They had used this method to lock him completely out of power.

If those shares had been in the hands of Sabrina or Floyd, two naive kids, he would have had countless ways to pressure, manipulate, or even arrange little "accidents" to force their hand.

But instead, the shares were held by Cora, who looked harmless on the surface but was actually shrewd and calculating. She guarded those shares like her own lifeline, refusing to budge no matter what. Nothing got past her.

Regina understood very well that her man was stuck in a passive and frustrating position.

"And there's also Nydia. That damn woman is no pushover either. She must have whispered plenty in that old woman's ear this time," Regina said viciously, her resentful eyes filled with venom.

Cora had listened to Paul the most back then. Now that Paul was dead, she listened to Nydia the most.

That was exactly what Esmond hated and resented the most, and one of the main reasons he wanted his own mother dead.

This time, that damn woman must have found out that Gianna carried Jordan blood and immediately started influencing Cora behind the scenes.

She clearly did not want Regina and Gianna entering the Jordans.

She was nothing more than a married-out daughter, yet she loved sticking her nose into everything.

Who did Nydia think she was? Just because Cora favored her, she dared to meddle in the Jordans affairs.

The more Regina thought about it, the angrier she became. Her chest felt like it was packed with burning fire, scorching her from the inside out.

She hated Nydia's interference even more than she hated Cora's bias. Cora ignored her own biological son and instead obeyed every word of a daughter who had married out.
