The Heiress They Couldn't Break (Amelia and Jeremy) novel Chapter 571

Chapter 571 Raising the Bar

On the other side of the stream, some sharp-eyed colleagues had already spotted them and couldn’t help but cheer and tease. “Oh my, Mr. Curran is carrying Ms. Nygard like she’s royalty!

“Seriously, all this PDA is too much for us single folks to handle!”

A female colleague immediately chimed in. “Right? Look at Mr. Curran-he took off his shoes and walked barefoot on those rocks just so Ms. Nygard wouldn’t get cold. That attention to detail is so sweet it melts my heart!

“Last time it rained, I had to ask my husband just to bring me an umbrella, and he still dragged his feet. Compared to this, I want to ship him back and demand a refund!”

Another male colleague who had recently gotten married sighed dramatically.

“Well, it’s over for us. Mr. Curran just raised the bar for all men by about ten levels. How are the rest of us supposed to compete now?”

Everyone chattered back and forth, laughter and teasing filling the air, all laced with good- natured envy.

Hearing all of this, Amelia’s cheeks burned even hotter, and she buried her face deeper against his back.

But the corners of her lips couldn’t help but curl upward. Her heart felt like it was filled with melting honey-sweet and warm.

Jeremy paid no attention to the teasing around him. He just focused on the path beneath his feet and steadily carried Amelia to the flat ground on the other side of the stream before carefully setting her down.

“Go find somewhere to sit first. I’ll grab our stuff and set up the tent.”

After saying that, he turned and headed back the way they came.

Those long legs of his strode forward without the same careful, deliberate steps from before.

By now, everyone had already set up their camping tents and started skewering various meats and vegetables for the barbecue.

They were planning to grill, chat, and enjoy all kinds of activities like cards, poker, and badminton,

For these high-powered executives and senior professionals, this kind of outdoor activity was one of their favorite ways to unwind.

When Josie saw her bestie arrive, she immediately pulled her over to sit down next to her.

“What took you so long? I’ve been bored out of my mind here all by myself.”

“You? Bored? There are so many people here, and you’re usually the life of the party. You’re telling me you’re bored?”

Amelia looked at her in disbelief and couldn’t help but question her.

“Yeah, I’ve been trying really hard to keep the energy up, but someone doesn’t seem interested in chatting with me.”

After saying that, Josie deliberately glanced at a certain someone not far away.

Harrison, sitting nearby, smiled but didn’t respond or make a sound. He just quietly grilled his beef skewers.

“Well, well, looks like someone’s determined to become a professional grill master. The great and mighty Ms. Nygard has arrived, and he won’t even say a word.

“Those lips of his must be worth their weight in gold-every syllable is priceless.”

Listening to Josie’s rapid-fire comments, even Amelia started to feel a bit awkward.

She was just about to say something to ease the tension when someone else spoke up.

“Ms. Hutton, who said no one wants to chat with you? I’m a great conversationalist. Whatever topic you want to talk about, I’m ready to jump in anytime.”

“Me too, me too! I love chatting. Ms. Hutton, what do you want to eat? I’ll grill it for you.”

The speakers were Kris Rees from the Marketing Department and Rudy Lloyd from the Planning Department.

Both of them looked at Josie with eager expressions, enthusiastically offering to help and proving they were men of action.

It was obvious they weren’t just sucking up-they genuinely seemed interested in her.

After all, most of the people who signed up for this trip were young and single, or at the age where marriage was on the horizon.

“Ha ha, thanks.” Josie laughed awkwardly.

Who wanted to chat with them? Her sights were set elsewhere entirely.

Finally, Harrison spoke up. “See? With so many people eager to chat with Ms. Hutton, how could you possibly be bored?”

Josie was fuming.
