Unfortunately, Raymond was not that foolish.

“Emery already knows you are my illegitimate daughter. How could she possibly want to see you now?

“You couldn’t have failed to think of that. You knew she despised you and that seeing you would only provoke her, yet you insisted on going anyway. What exactly were you trying to do?”

“I…” Faced with his sharp questioning, Gianna was momentarily at a loss for words.

“She is not your mother. From now on, you are not allowed to see her without permission.”

Raymond’s expression was grim. After delivering that sentence, he turned and strode away without another glance.

Gianna stared at his retreating figure, fury surging inside her.

What does this old man mean by that? I’m his biological daughter too. He’s known the truth all along.

Now that everything is out in the open, he doesn’t need to worry about that old woman Emery anymore. He should be openly good to me.

Gianna could not make sense of Raymond’s thinking.

Shouldn’t he be rushing to bring her and Regina back to the Nygards, then pick a date to host a banquet and announce it to everyone?

What was the meaning of his current behavior?

Her dissatisfaction grew, along with the sense that he had other plans.

As for Emery falling ill, she needed to inform her real mother as soon as possible.

Only Regina was truly capable and scheming.

Once Regina knew everything, Gianna would not have to think so much herself. She could simply sit back and reap the benefits.

But before she could find the chance to see her mother, she heard that Miguel had collapsed.

Whether it was from overwork lately or worry over their mother’s condition, no one knew. The result was the same. He had fainted.

He had barely made it out of the hospital doors when he had to be rushed back in for emergency treatment.

In the end, he was diagnosed with heart failure.

As for why heart failure had occurred, further investigation was still needed.

The diagnosis stunned Marcelo and Maxwell and was nearly impossible for Raymond to accept.

Miguel had always lived with discipline. He had no bad habits and never deliberately stayed up late.

Aside from a period when work demands had forced him to burn the midnight oil, he had always kept early

hours.

For him to suddenly end up like this was something the family could not come to terms with.

“He’s been complaining about chest pain for some time. I didn’t expect it to be this serious.

“I told him to get a thorough checkup at the hospital. He came back saying there was nothing wrong, just fatigue from being overworked.

“But if there was nothing wrong, how could this happen so suddenly?”

Marcelo and Maxwell murmured to each other in low voices, the deep concern in their eyes unmistakable.

Usually they traded barbs and occasionally found fault with one another.

Sometimes they even wanted to see the other stumble or make a fool of himself.

But when something truly serious happened, they did not want to see their brother harmed.

Now that it had happened, they were genuinely anxious for him.

Emery was already in poor state, and now Miguel had fallen as well.

For the Nygards, already in a turbulent period, this was another crushing blow, casting a heavy shadow over the family.

Gianna was also surprised although she felt that Marcelo, Miguel, and Maxwell were no longer of much use to her, and if one of them died she wouldn’t care.

Still, she had not expected him to collapse so suddenly.

She went through the motions of keeping vigil at the hospital, then left to find her biological mother.

At Regina’s place.

“What? You’re saying Emery is seriously ill and hospitalized, and Miguel has heart failure and is unconscious?”

After hearing Gianna’s account, Regina froze for a moment, then revealed a look of undisguised schadenfreude.
