“Jeremy is a good kid. I know him well,” Walter said. “He’s the son of Whitney and Hendrick. He’s capable, steady, and kind. He’s someone you can trust with a lifetime.”

Amelia’s heart skipped. She answered against her true feelings, “Walter, I’m not thinking that far ahead. We’re just friends.”

Walter patted her shoulder. His tone was calm but firm. “You’ll end up together sooner or later. Feelings can’t be rushed. Take your time. Let things happen.”

Amelia frowned, confused. “Why do you say that?”

Why was he so sure they would end up together?

“You’re meant for each other,” Walter said. “And in the future, many important things may need the two of you to handle them together.”

His words sounded mysterious, like there was more he wasn’t saying.

Then he added, almost casually, “Whitney wants you as her daughter-in-law. She’s been calling me nonstop lately. Dozens of times a day.”

Amelia had no words.

Was that really necessary?

Walter loved peace and order. Someone like him must be driven crazy by those calls.

For a moment, he knew what to say. The air went cold.

Amelia quickly changed the subject. “Oh, Walter, I found that sigil mark again.”

She had wanted to tell him earlier. She just hadn’t found the chance. He was always busy.

Walter’s brow tightened at once, his face hardened, and he said, “Where did you see it? When?”

“Recently, I dug up some new leads on Regina,” Amelia said. “I think she has hidden ties with the Jordans.

“I asked Tyler to look into her. He found the sigil on her body. So we traced her past.”

Amelia told Walter everything she had discovered. The new clues. Her doubts. She was overwhelmed by everything.

Walter had treated her better than her parents. He was her mentor and more like a father.

The calm confidence she carried today? Walter deserved most of the credit.

And more than that-years ago, he had saved her from that lab.

Without him, there would be no her today.

She would have been dead or ended up as a cripple.

Chapter 454 Sigil Mark

So, aside from Jeremy, Walter was the person she trusted most.

They didn’t talk much. Walter was strict and rarely showed emotion. To others, they looked distant.

But in truth, they were family.

Walter had given his whole life to research. No spouse. No children. He had no close relatives.

Amelia was the only family he had. He cared deeply for her.

He simply wasn’t good at showing it. He spoke little and rarely smiled.

“I didn’t expect this sigil to appear again,” Walter said, his expression heavy. “It could be hiding somewhere we don’t know. Or worse, there may already be people like this around us.”

When he spoke about it, the seriousness in his tone was unmistakable.

More and more people were being used as living test subjects. Some were treated like lab animals, experimented on without mercy.

These people were excellent at hiding. From the outside, it was almost impossible to tell anything was wrong.

That alone meant one thing. The mysterious lab and the group of rogue chemists behind it were growing larger and stronger.

That was not good news.

Walter slowly closed his eyes. Memories from years ago rose again, clear and painful.

Back then, he, Hendrick, and Paul had been inseparable. The three of them were brothers in everything but blood.

Then disaster struck. Hendrick vanished without warning. They searched for years, but he was never found. In the end, he was officially declared dead.

Not long after that, Paul and his wife were killed in a car accident, Both of them died on the spot.

It was no coincidence. Those two men had both been exceptionally gifted.

Hendrick especially stood out. He was known as a once-in-several-centuries genius, a true all-rounder.

If he didn’t want to learn something, that was the only reason he wouldn’t master it.
