“I know I haven’t spent enough time with Mom either,” Esmond said calmly. “Since you’re back in the country, we can visit her together. We can stay with her and talk to her more.
“Maybe if we keep talking to her, she’ll wake up soon.”
He openly admitted his neglect. He didn’t lose his temper at all. His tone was gentle and patient.
With him lowering his stance, Nydia couldn’t bring herself to blame her brother.
She had to admit it. Esmond really knew how to handle people.
He lowered his stance just enough to make it impossible for her to say anything harsh. If she did, she would look petty.
In the days that followed, the family members and some distant relatives came one after another to visit Cora.
Esmond even put his work on hold. He spent more time at home, sitting by Cora’s bedside and talking to her.
Because of this, every relative and family friend who came to visit couldn’t stop praising him for being such a devoted son.
Less than a week later, Cora’s condition suddenly worsened.
This threw the entire family into panic once again.
The team of specialists was called in again. After another round of examinations, they could not hide their concern. Their brows were tightly furrowed.
“Mrs. Jordan’s condition is no longer under control,” one of them said urgently. “Surgery is the only option left if we want even a slim chance of saving her.
“If we continue with conservative treatment, she may not last more than three months.”
Their words made Esmond’s face turn grim. He frowned deeply and shot back, “You were the ones who said conservative treatment was safer before. Now you’re telling me surgery is the only way!
“If the surgery fails, or if there are serious aftereffects, how are you going to take responsibility for that risk?”
His question nearly made the doctors break down.
They were doctors, not gods. They could not promise anything about surgical risks.
“We’re sorry,” one of them said carefully. “We truly can’t predict the risks after surgery,
“The worst outcome is that she never wakes up. The best outcome is that she does wake up-but there will definitely be damage and long-term complications.”

Even though the Jordans were powerful and influential, no doctor dared to give a firm guarantee. In the end, the decision could only be made by the family.
Esmond stood there, brows locked tight, lost in thought. He simply could not decide.
No matter which option he chose, the result was bad.
Either she died, or she lived, but with lasting damage.
How was he supposed to choose?
If even he couldn’t make the decision, Sabrina and the others didn’t dare say a word.
Just as Esmond hesitated in silence, the door burst open. Nydia rushed in.
Her expression was gloomy. She was clearly upset and furious as she stared straight at Brielle and Sabrina.
“You two,” she demanded sharply, “why didn’t you explain everything clearly from the beginning?
“When your grandmother collapsed, someone helped her and gave her an emergency pill. Why didn’t either of you mention that?”
Brielle and Sabrina were stunned by the sudden accusation. Brielle, especially, looked panicked.
