Sierra noticed Sky looking dazed and quickly ran over. She tugged on his sleeve and shook it, asking, "Sky, have you really forgotten?"
Sky snapped back to reality. Sierra's cheeks were flushed, and her dazed, aggrieved expression made it clear she wasn't thinking straight.
Perhaps it was because he had taken care of Emma since they were young. He had always been more patient with younger girls. Back then, he cared so much about Emma that he unintentionally ended up hurting the other girls around him.
That was his fault.
He reached out and gently held Sierra's hand to stop her from shaking him. "Yeah, I remember. You can call me whatever you want."
It was just a name. He shouldn't argue with a drunk Sierra over something so minor. Besides, he couldn't even be sure if he had actually said it or not. If he denied it, and she wasn't wrong, it would only hurt Sierra's feelings.
No matter what, he had shown her kindness when they were kids.
Even though they hadn't seen each other for years, she still remembered every little detail of their interactions. That meant those memories were really important to her.
Sky had spent a long time in prison. His personality and way of thinking had changed a lot since then.
Seeing him go along with her, Sierra immediately clapped her hands in delight. She grinned and said, "Sky, I want ice cream and cotton candy. I want both in strawberry flavor!"
Sky smiled. "Alright, just wait right here. I'll get it for you."
Sky gently supported Sierra and glanced around before walking over to a nearby snack stand. He bought a large strawberry ice cream.
Then, he went to another stall and bought a big bag of cotton candy. With one in each hand, he walked back to Sierra.
While he was gone, Sierra stood in the exact same spot, waiting obediently for him.
Sierra was truly a well-behaved child, and it was hard to believe she had been married to Samuel for years.
Sky smiled softly. "Here you go, strawberry ice cream and cotton candy."
"Thank you, Sky," Sierra said, taking the treats and immediately digging into them.
Sky stood by, watching her, feeling a sense of familiarity he couldn't quite explain.
When he was younger, he often took Emma out to play. She was a spoiled little girl with a sweet tooth and would frequently beg for ice cream or cotton candy. Worried about her teeth and how cold the ice cream was, he would always deny her the treats.
However, little girls like Emma always knew how to use their charm. After a bit of pouting and whining, he would eventually give in to her requests.
Over time, whenever Emma wanted something, all she had to do was cry or act cute, and Sky would cave in. Even when he knew some of her actions were wrong, he would still agree to her wishes.
If only he had been stricter with her when they were younger or taught her the difference between right and wrong. Perhaps then, things would have turned out differently.
The thought hit him hard, and Sky's eyes turned red. Some people were gone for good once they walked out of someone's life.
"Sky, I'm done," Sierra said, finishing the ice cream and cotton candy. She even licked her fingers clean with a satisfied expression on her face.
