The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus) novel Chapter 669

After Ann and Sue finished speaking, tears streamed down their faces, but they quickly wiped them away stubbornly and resolutely.

They knew they could not back out after choosing this path.

People's limits were tested over time.

If they held firm this time, they could win their freedom.

"Sue, Ann, you can't do this!"

Lorraine said as she cried, "You were born in Ashford Vale, and you'll die in Ashford Vale. If you die, what am I supposed to do?"

"Uncle Maverick, Aunt Lorraine."

Daniel and Denzel suddenly stepped forward. They had been accepted into high school along with Lynette and the others.

The struggles Lynette and the girls faced were never something the two of them had to worry about.

They walked over to Lynette, Sue, and Ann, then kneeled beside them.

Earlier, when the villagers had fought with Natalie and the others, they hadn't joined in. Instead, they had done their best to stop the fight.

"Lynette is right. As men, we should earn our own money, work hard to build a life, and marry through our own efforts—not by draining the women dry."

Daniel spoke up. "Since we were little, girls in the village have had it much harder than the boys, but that doesn't mean it's right.

"These days, men and women are equal. In fact, many women are even more capable than men. The men in this village have always benefited from the system.

"But instead of being grateful, we take it all for granted. Have you ever thought about what would happen if our roles were reversed? Would you still feel like this was just the way things should be?

"Our way of thinking is wrong. We all need to go out and see the world, to learn the right kind of values.

"Don't stay stuck in the past and keep using outdated traditions to chain down women."

"Daniel, Denzel, you two have studied so much that you've lost your minds! How can you side with outsiders against your own people?"

Maverick shouted again, but Marcus stepped down harder, and he immediately fell silent.

Daniel took a deep breath and slowly shook his head. "We're not siding with outsiders against our own. And we haven't lost our minds from studying. On the contrary, it's because we've studied and been educated that we've come to realize that our village's way of doing things has been wrong all along.

"Everyone, wake up! Stop forcing the women in our village into these situations. We are all living our first lives. No one is more noble than anyone else. Just because you're parents doesn't mean you have the right to take away their futures.

"If you're worried that Natalie and her people are scammers, then we brothers can guarantee that they are not.

"Scammers steal from your pockets. But ever since Natalie arrived, she's been giving you money without asking for anything in return. What kind of scammer would be so kind and foolish?

"Instead of being grateful to Natalie and her people, you fought them. That is ungrateful and wrong."

"Shut up," Dawson finally said. "It looks like all that learning went to waste. If they're not getting anything out of it, why would they make us gather herbs to sell to them?"
