The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 270

Chapter 270

Avery’s POV

“Why didn’t you tell me you were pregnant?

Asher leapt off the bed and kicked over his nightstand, sending bottles and books flying everywhere. I curled up into a fetal position and held my arms over my head, squeezing my eyes shut.

Years of living with my father had taught me what to do in situations like this. Make myself small. And hope they eventually forgot about me during their rage.

While Asher continued his rampage, I glanced at the space I’d nearly crawled through before. I considered making a run for it now. Squeezing through and shifting and running as fast as I could.

But deep down, I knew it wouldn’t work. My wolf was still lending her strength to the fetus. Asher would catch me too quickly. And I was still reeling from my morning sickness. I wouldn’t make it very far.

I had to do what I knew best with men like this. I had to play into Asher’s wants, his ego. Whatever it took, I had to survive. My baby had to survive.

I sat up slowly and took in the state of the tent. He’d torn the curtains down that were separating the bedroom from the rest of the space. Items had been swept off tables. Chairs overturned. Thankfully, he hadn’t turned his ire on me. Yet.

“You think you can sully the Lycan bloodline with Werewolf seed?” His voice was shrill and dangerous, his one good eye flashing between red and yellow.” Interbreeding is strictly prohibited! You’re mine! Mine!”

I stood slowly and walked over to the overturned chairs. With careful movements, began picking them up. I arranged them around the table, then stooped to pick up the map that had fallen.

For the first time, I noticed a marker on the map-red letters that read “Camp” in the eastern forest. I froze.

M

East. I was east. I stared at the map, studying the details, then spotted the creek known as Dead Man’s Gully that cut right across the eastern border of Nightwolf. The map cut off after there, but I knew that if I went west, I would eventually get to the creek, then to Nightwolf.

Home.

“What are you doing?” Asher shouted. He stormed after me and snatched the map

away.

I forced a calm smile. “Helping you clean up

Asher tucked the map into his pocket, then drew in a deep breath as if calming himself. His next words made my blood turn to ice.

“You have to abort it,” he said.

I turned to him. “Why?”

“Didn’t you hear me before? It’s the child of a Werewolf. Lesser genes. How can we rebuild our empire with a half-breed? Besides, I won’t allow you to walk around flaunting the child of that man. I have dignity, too, you know.”

My vision blurred with a mixture of terror and rage. I watched as the doctor approached Asher and whispered something in his ear. He nodded.

“The doctor will prepare a mixture for you. The pregnancy is early enough that you can pass the embryo without lasting damage or pain or need for a more invasive procedure.”

“It will merely be a heavy period,” the doctor assured me. “You will be fertile again before your mating ceremony.”

I took a step back. Abort my child? Just like that?

For him?

“No,” I blurted out. “I won’t do it!”

“You don’t have a choice.” Asher grabbed my wrist, fangs flashing. “How many times do I have to tell you that you’re mine? Do you know how hard I worked to get you here? I wandered the wilderness for you for decades, lived amongst filthy rogues, just to gather enough strength to get you back. I won’t let you ruin it all by letting that man’s seed fester in your womb. It’s mine. It’s always been mine.”

Mine. I hated the way he said that. Like I was his property. Like my reproductive organs belonged to him simply because of a pact that our dead parents allegedly made for us.

“Take her back to her tent,” Asher said, releasing me with a shove. “The medicine will be brought to you once it’s complete. Don’t misbehave.”
