The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 108

Chapter 108

Avery’s POV

Gideon’s words echoed in my ears as I fled the Nightwolf estate. Insufferable Alpha!

It hurt so much that he could shove me away at the same time as he embraced that snake, Dierdra. She was out for her own good, I was certain of it. I thought of the smug way in which she had told me she would allow me my wedding night and then Gideon would be hers.

The confidence she had in being able to take Gideon from me had shaken me. For a brief moment in his room, I had thought that we had shared a true connection. Our bodies had fit together so well, and it had been electric being against him, feeling his every breath and every

movement.

There had been a part of my heart that had felt so reassured in sharing a bed with Gideon. A small part of my soul that had breathed easy in sharing space with him and feeling his lips on

mine.

What did it all mean now? The fragile thing that had been building between us had shattered. I could tell he only thought I had given him the antidote to undermine his true mate.

He would never believe me about her now. There was nothing left for me here. I had done my best, and I had kept my promise to stay until the wedding.

Now I would collect my mother and leave. We would flee to the human world.

I set my steps towards the parking lot where the communal pack cars were kept. There was a box of keys that anyone who was in the pack could sign out and take and use. It wasn’t hard to find a nice SUV that would do for the short drive north to Sofia’s.

I hoped that the enchantress wouldn’t be too angry at me arriving out of nowhere in the middle of the night. Hopefully I would still be able to find her place. Last time there had been an enchantment that had kept the other warriors in Gideon’s pack from finding it.

I drove through the night, shivering with the adrenaline still running through my veins from my encounter with Gideon. There was another feeling as well, a sense of disappointment. My body had been ready for him, and now that energy was draining away, leaving me feeling spent and empty.

It had been a little over a month since my first mating heat in the woods. Since that time, there had been no one who had touched me the way that mystery man had. Being with Gideon on our wedding night had reawakened those urges, and I found that I felt agitated as I drove.

I breathed a sigh as Sofia’s house emerged out of the darkness. Whatever spell she used to hide this place must have allowed me through. I was grateful to be given access.

I parked the car in the gravel outside of her cottage and saw her silhouette appear in the door by the time I stepped out of the car.

“Avery, child. What brings you to my home? Have you changed your mind about joining me as my apprentice?” Sofia chuckled, and she looked so hopeful I felt a twinge of guilt for not bringing her the news she clearly hoped for.

“Good, evening, Sofia.” I greeted politely. It was always a good policy to be on good terms with anyone who could wield mysterious power. I was hoping to speak with my mother.”

“Come in, come in.” Sofia beckoned me into her home and through to the kitchen where a cozy fire was burning in the hearth and a fat orange tomcat was warming himself on the

stones.

“Well, now.” The enchantress murmured as she poured us each a cup of tea from a steaming kettle, “Your mother, you say?”

“Yes,” I nodded, “I saw her at my wedding earlier today and was hoping to talk to her. Would you mind telling her that I’m here?”

“Congratulations on your wedding.” Sofia peered at me over the top of her spectacles, “That explains the get-up.” She clucked her tongue, “Not exactly the sort of outfit one puts on for an evening drive to an old woman’s house.” She looked over my somewhat revealing clothing.
