Ever since that secret deal, Lilly hadn’t seen Hanna again.
Hanna smiled, looking pleased with herself. “You’re sharp, Lilly. I actually came here just to see you. Jason’s face is almost completely healed, and now we’re together.”
Those words stung more than Lilly expected. Of course, she’d thought about Hanna being with Jason. She’d played out that scenario in her head, but hearing it for real still made her heart ache. It hurt so much.
Hanna kept going, her voice light. “Jason and I are really happy, you know. We’re probably getting married soon. I’m sure you’ll wish us well.”
Married. Already? It felt way too fast.
Lilly curled her fingers into her palm, her nails digging in so hard she hardly noticed. If that accident hadn’t happened, she and Jason would probably be married by now. But now he was marrying Hanna.
Lilly met Hanna’s eyes, her expression icy. “Do you honestly think I’d wish you happiness?”
She took a step closer. “Other people might not see it, but you and I both know the kind of tricks you used to get Jason. So stop acting so innocent around me. I don’t want to see you ever again.”
Without waiting for a response, Lilly turned and walked away.
Behind her, Hanna’s smile twisted into something cruel.
Lilly hurried down the hallway, but before she could catch her breath, another familiar figure appeared. Frank.
Seriously, what was with today? Did she have to run into everyone?
Frank saw her too. “Lilly. Hi.”
