Lilly had spent the last month in a daze. Every day felt foggy, every thought came back to Jason. She hadn’t even noticed she’d missed her period.
Her cycle was always on time. Now, it was a whole month late.
Suddenly, it hit her. She remembered those nights with Jason, how they hadn’t bothered with protection. He’d talked about wanting marriage and kids, and she’d always loved children too. They both just let things happen, never worrying about consequences.
Was she pregnant?
She couldn’t bring herself to tell her mom. There was no way she’d let her parents worry about something like this.
“Mom, I haven’t really had an appetite lately. I think I’m just tired. I don’t feel like eating anything heavy,” she said as casually as she could.
Her mom’s hand landed gently on her back, full of concern. “Let me cook something else for you.”
Lilly nodded. “Thanks, Mom.”
Lilly locked herself in her room, took the pregnancy test, and waited.
The result popped up almost instantly.
Two red lines.
She stared at them, her heart racing. She was pregnant. Actually pregnant.
She was having Jason’s baby.
This little one was coming into the world because of the hope she and Jason once shared. It should have been the happiest news, but now… they were over.
Lilly pressed her hand to her stomach. She was going to be a mom for the first time. It was hard to wrap her head around the idea that a new life was already growing inside her.
She didn’t even hesitate. No second-guessing, no regrets.
She wanted this baby.
Jason was brilliant and incredibly handsome—the perfect combination. With his brains and her own, their baby would be nothing short of amazing.
For the first time in weeks, the tightness in her chest eased. She felt lighter, almost giddy.
