Suddenly, something clicked for Lilly. “Wait, I think I know where he is!”

“What did you think of?” her assistant asked, eyes wide with hope.

Lilly’s voice was full of excitement. “There’s a place I haven’t checked yet. I have a strong feeling he’s there. Let’s go.”

“Of course, Miss.”

She had just been sitting down, trying to catch her breath. When she jumped to her feet, she moved too fast. As she turned, her ankle gave out and she pitched forward, bracing for the hard landing.

“Ah!” Lilly gasped, eyes squeezing shut.

But the crash she expected never came. Instead, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, steadying her. She landed softly against someone’s chest, warm and solid.

Lilly looked up, startled, and found herself staring into a familiar, handsome face—partially hidden behind a mask.

It’s Jason.

He’d just stepped out of his car and caught her at the exact right moment.

Lilly hadn’t expected to see him here. For a second, her mind went totally blank. She straightened herself quickly, trying to play it cool. “Mr. Farill? What are you doing here?”

Jason studied her, his gaze steady. “You came to my office looking for me today, didn’t you?”

Lilly forced a little smile. “Yeah. I did.”

“Was there something you needed?”

“She just… asked me not to come looking for you anymore. She said she’s your girlfriend now. I shouldn’t get in the way. I don’t want to cause any misunderstandings…”

Jason interrupted her, pulling her even closer, his voice almost teasing. “Do you want to know what’s going on between me and Hanna?”

Lilly blinked, caught off guard. “What are you saying?”

“If you have questions about me and Hanna, ask me. I’ll tell you. Why believe what someone else says?”

But would it really matter if it came from him or from Hanna?

Lilly tried to pull her arm free again. “Please let me go. I don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea…”

Before she could finish, Jason cut her off, his tone suddenly serious. “Lilly, listen to me. There is nothing between Hanna and me. She’s not my girlfriend.”
