Moss and Joanna came over, their faces tight with a mix of love and frustration. “Jessa.”
Jessa shot them a glare. “Don’t call my name.”
Everything went still.
Lilly stepped in. “Ms. Wade, it’s supposed to be a happy day. Maybe put your temper aside for once.”
Jessa scoffed. “Happy? You think it’s happy that my parents are making Ella their stepdaughter? Now I have to share their love with someone else?”
She stared straight at Moss and Joanna. “Do you even see me as your daughter anymore? What am I supposed to be now that you’re bringing in Ella?”
People standing nearby started whispering. “What’s going on? Ms. Wade doesn’t want her parents to adopt Ella?”
“She’s totally here to sabotage the event.”
“She came in ready for a fight, not to celebrate.”
Jessa was definitely not there to support them. The second she got that fancy invitation, she decided she was going to ruin the party.
Louise looked pretty satisfied with the drama, but she acted like she wanted to mediate. “Jessa, come on, let it go. Your parents can do what they want.”
“Why should I let it go? I’m the real daughter of the Wade family. Mom, Dad, you can’t Ella your daughter. I won’t allow it.”
Jessa said it loud and clear for everyone to hear.
The whole room buzzed with shocked whispers.
