Ella felt like she was sitting on hot coals. What was David up to now? Did he really want her to call him by his name so badly? He was obviously messing with her again.
She shot him a sharp look.
David just smiled, clearly amused by her reaction.
Right then, her phone rang, the sound cutting through the awkwardness like a lifeline. Ella quickly stood up, grateful for the excuse. “You guys go ahead and eat, I need to take this call.”
She stepped out into the hallway and answered. It was Wyatt.
“Ella, I’m in Rockford Bay now. Where are you?”
“I’m in Seacore City at the moment. I’ll be back in a couple of days.”
“Alright, I’ll wait for you.”
She hung up and turned around, only to walk straight into someone’s chest. Warm, solid—definitely not the wall.
“Ah!” she gasped.
Her phone slipped from her hand, tumbling toward the floor.
No, not her phone!
She reached out, but a strong hand moved faster, catching it before it hit the ground.
When she looked up, David’s handsome face was right there, way too close for comfort.
He’d followed her. Why was he here?
“Give me my phone,” she said quickly, reaching for it.
David just lifted his arm higher, easily keeping it out of reach.
Was he serious right now?
