He rattled off the address. “The guy’s passed out… Just send the reward money to my account, okay? No more questions.”
Lilly had no idea who he was talking to. She hurriedly wrapped herself in his jacket, trying to cover her bare skin.
She leaned against the taxi to steady herself. She wanted to say thank you, but before she could, a familiar voice echoed down the road. “Lilly! Lilly, where are you?”
Ella had found her.
By the time Lilly turned around, Jace was already gone. Not even a shadow left behind.
How did he disappear so fast?
She never even got to thank him.
…
David and Ella had arrived together. David had noticed tire marks on the road earlier, so they’d gotten out of their car and started searching.
As soon as she spotted Lilly, Ella ran to her, breathless and worried. “Lilly, are you okay? Why did you run off like that? You scared me half to death!”
David took one look at the unconscious driver on the ground and quickly pieced everything together. When he saw Lilly was safe, he let out a slow breath, relief flickering across his face.
Still, his expression stayed tight and serious. He couldn’t help but scold her. “Lilly, what were you thinking? You’re not a kid anymore. You need to start looking after yourself.”
All the fear, hurt, and confusion Lilly had bottled up finally spilled over. Her eyes stung with tears as she turned away and walked off, without saying a word.
Ella chased after her. “Lilly, where are you going?”
