"Where’s my corpse? It was just here..."
Brock Whitley stared at a spot on the courtyard wall, his soul body somewhat flickering, with a bewildered expression, murmuring and inexplicably falling into a wave of irritation again,
"My corpse is missing! Who stole my corpse?! Without it, how can I be buried?!"
Seeing him still rambling on, Scarlett Jennings found him noisy and was about to manually shut him up when the system acted quicker, flying out and giving his soul body a hefty smack with its tail,
[Shut up! You’re annoying my tail!]
Samuel Chalmers looked at the crocodile tortoise that appeared abruptly, recalling that indeed Scarlett Jennings had a system turtle beside her, yet that turtle didn’t look like this.
Seeing Samuel Chalmers’ glance, Scarlett Jennings seemed to know what he was thinking and introduced voluntarily, "Shellback, this is the new host body it chose itself."
Shellback, having just slapped the ghost, floated over to Samuel Chalmers in a cloud of black mist upon hearing Scarlett Jennings introduce it, presenting itself at the most perfect angle of this host body, meanwhile complaining to Scarlett Jennings,
[If I’d known he was a Dragon Vein, I wouldn’t have said I wanted him as a host before. No wonder his fortune is so hard to snatch.]
Scarlett Jennings was used to the system being able to communicate only with her, and she did not respond upon hearing this. Yet she did not expect Samuel Chalmers to speak, looking at Shellback,
"You originally wanted me to be your host body?"
At these words, both Scarlett Jennings and Shellback were stunned.
They suddenly turned to Samuel Chalmers,
"You can hear it speak?"
Dashiell on the side was puzzled, "Who spoke? The ghost?"
Samuel Chalmers recalled slightly, remembering that the voice of the system beside Scarlett Jennings had only ever been audible to her.
Even the former him could never hear the system’s voice.
However, after a brief thought, Samuel Chalmers understood the reason.
"Your system, being a product of the Otherworld, I initially couldn’t hear its voice."
As a Dragon Vein, if he wished, he could hear the voices of all things.
But the system itself does not belong to this world.
"The reason I can hear it now is probably because... you gave it a name."
In the world, once something possesses its own name, it has a label in the world and thus has its own place and belonging.
Thereby fully integrating into the new world.
And evidently, because of this name, this system born of the Heavenly Dao has acknowledged a new master.
Samuel Chalmers stared intently at Scarlett Jennings with his deep black eyes.
To snatch someone from the Heavenly Dao, as far as he knows, she’s the second one.
Scarlett Jennings didn’t expect it to be because of this reason, but initially, her intention in naming the system was to hope it would see this place as a home.
The outcome now is quite nice.
On the other side, Brock Whitley, having been slapped by the system’s tail, dared not make a fuss anymore. Scarlett Jennings originally wanted to ask if he remembered anything before dying, but seeing he could say nothing, she casually wrapped him into a bundle and handed it to Cyrus Whitley,
"He can’t pose any threat to you anymore, but his body has disappeared and it’s likely irretrievable; as a relative, you can apply for a declaration of death for him.
If you’re worried about family not being able to accept it, you can temporarily take this back, and later I can directly have the guide come to take him to the Underworld."
Upon hearing this, Cyrus Whitley hesitated slightly at first but quickly retracted his hand from the bundle.
"You can handle this directly for me, I don’t want to take it back."
He spoke with a bitter expression, "If possible, could the police directly declare his death? It’s not suitable for me to go..."
After all, without a body, if he applied, he could already imagine how his father and stepmother would react upon knowing.
They’d suspect he killed Brock, not believe Brock is dead, think he’s cursing his brother to death...
