The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 91

A jolt of surprise shot through Catherine, and she almost flung her phone across the room.

When she looked at the screen, she realized the call wasn’t from Lorinda. It was from Lance.

As the seconds ticked by on the call, it felt like all the air in the shop was being sucked away.

“Lance.”

“Come back.”

The call ended abruptly.

Just two words, but they carried so much force she felt like she’d been slapped. Catherine’s face tightened.

“Could you please bag these up for me?” she said to the sales assistant.

She quickly handed over her clothes and headed to the register.

“What happened? Was that a call?” Gavin asked, sounding a little too eager.

Catherine handed over her card and said, “It was Lance. I think he’s back at the hotel.”

“No way,” Gavin shot back without even thinking.

She didn’t bother arguing. Whether Lance was at the hotel or not, the truth was out. She’d gone shopping without telling him.

Five minutes later, Catherine left the mall, shopping bags in hand, and flagged down a cab to take her back. No matter how many times Gavin offered her a ride, she refused.

By six, she was back in her room. She dropped off her bags, then crossed the hall to knock on Lance’s door.

She waited. No answer. After a while, she had no choice but to call him.

“Lance, I’m back.”

There was noise in the background, the kind you hear in a crowded place. She could even hear Adelina laughing.

Lance stayed silent for a few seconds. “Got it. I’ll come back now.”

Catherine stared at her phone, puzzled.

He wasn’t at the hotel? Didn’t he call her back because of work?
