The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 506

Gavin lived on the floor below. After lunch, he headed back downstairs.

Lorinda suddenly remembered something. “I’ve been messaging Amanda all afternoon, but she hasn’t replied.”

She’d invited Amanda to dinner, using Catherine’s discharge from the hospital as an excuse. Just a few days ago, Amanda had seemed so worried about Catherine—now there was nothing but silence.

“Lorinda, do you really think I should keep looking into this?” Catherine asked. She sounded uncertain, and her eyes darted away.

Lorinda gave her a thoughtful look. “Let me ask you this. If Lance took your child away, would you try to get him back?”

“Of course I would,” Catherine blurted, not even stopping to think.

“Exactly. Even if you knew your kid would have better food and a warmer home with Lance, you still wouldn’t be able to let him go,” Lorinda said. Her voice was steady and sure. “So think about your parents. They lost you. They must feel terrible, probably worry about whether you’re eating enough, or if your stepfamily is treating you badly. Their longing to find you… it’s got to be just as strong as your wish to be with Alexander.”

Catherine felt a jolt, the kind that went straight to her heart.

All the doubts she had before seemed to fade, replaced by sudden clarity after what Lorinda said.

“See? You’re such a good person. Your family must be good people too. They’d never just toss you aside and forget about you,” Lorinda said, sounding so certain it almost felt like a promise.

Catherine managed a small, grateful smile. “You’re the same. You’ve been searching for your family for so long. Any news yet?”

Lorinda’s lips stretched into a bright smile, but there was no way to hide the shadow behind her eyes. “Me? If I can’t find them, that’s life, I guess. With my temper, who knows, maybe I'd be worse off if I actually met them.”

“No way. You’re straightforward and honest. No doubt your family is even better,” Catherine said softly. She reached over, squeezing Lorinda’s hand for comfort. “Try not to worry. Keep searching and you’ll find them.”
