The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 453

“He and I came to find you together.”

Gavin walked over and stopped right beside her, looking down with a gentle seriousness. “I want to invite you to join Golden Horizon Enterprises. Lance said the choice is yours.”

Catherine’s eyes flickered in shock as she looked from Gavin to Lance, trying to make sense of it.

Lance stood just a few steps away, not moving at all. There was something about him that made it clear he was still the one in control, no matter what Gavin said.

Gavin claimed the decision was hers, but Catherine knew it was never really up to her. Lance still held all the cards.

“Gavin, are you kidding? I’m on maternity leave,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

“I know talent when I see it,” Gavin replied right away. “If you say yes, you can start the paperwork immediately. You’ll keep your maternity leave, and I’ll pay your full salary.”

He was completely serious. Saying all this in front of everyone meant he wasn’t just making empty promises.

Catherine felt like her world had flipped in a matter of seconds. She couldn’t wrap her head around what had just happened.

Sally, standing off to the side, looked furious as she stared straight at Gavin.

Catherine hesitated, then turned to Lance. “Lance?” she asked softly, hoping for an explanation, or at least a sign.

Lance barely shifted. His lips parted just enough for his low voice to come out. “Gavin values talent. The choice is yours. Give me your answer at the office tomorrow.”

He didn’t wait for her to respond. He just turned and walked away, leaving her with nothing but questions swirling in her mind.

Was he really letting her leave? Was this his way of agreeing to her moving on?

Catherine watched his back as he left, her heart twisted so tight she could barely breathe.

A cold laugh snapped her back. Sally’s voice was heavy with sarcasm. “Wow, Catherine. You’re really something. Got him wrapped around your finger, huh?”

Sally’s eyes were sharp, almost gleeful. So the baby wasn’t Lance’s after all. It was Gavin’s. That’s what everyone would think now.

She whipped out her phone, probably to call Adelina with the latest gossip, then walked away without looking back.

The crowd started to break up, and soon it was just Catherine and Gavin left in the emptying lobby.

In the car, Catherine watched as Gavin slipped into the passenger seat. She sat up, anxiety clear in her posture.

“So what happened, really?” she pressed.

Gavin didn’t hold back. “Sally started grilling Lance in front of everyone. She wanted to know if the baby was his, and if not, then whose. She wouldn’t let it go.”

He laid it all out for her, then summed it up. “If Lance avoided the question, people would assume the baby’s his. But if he denied it, it would ruin your reputation. That’s why he hesitated.”

It was the first time Gavin had ever seen Lance at a loss. And it was all because of Catherine.

She shook her head in disbelief. “By poaching me in public like this, aren’t you just making everyone think my baby is yours?” Her voice trembled a little. “If I join your company now, it’s like I’m admitting it.”

Gavin turned to face her. “Is that really a problem?”

“Of course it’s a problem.” Catherine’s voice was sharp with frustration. “Gavin, this is crazy. I don’t want to jump from one mess straight into another.”

She was terrified that Lance would try to take the baby from her, but she also dreaded being misunderstood and targeted by Belinda and Adelina.
