The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 439

Catherine and Lorinda shared a look, both catching the same hint of suspicion in each other’s eyes.

“We know,” Catherine said, pretending to scroll through her phone like she wasn’t bothered at all.

Amanda leaned in, dropping her voice. “So… have you actually met them?”

Catherine’s fingers paused mid-scroll. She locked her phone and looked straight at Amanda.

“If you have something to say, just spit it out.”

“Why are you being all mysterious?” Lorinda’s patience was wearing thin. “What, are you secretly a Lee or something?”

Amanda shook her head. “Of course not. I’m just telling you, stay away from the Lee family.”

“Why?” Catherine pressed, her tone sharp.

“There’s no real reason. Would I ever steer you wrong?” Amanda put on her best ‘I’m only doing this for you’ face. “If you two won’t listen to me, then don’t blame me when you get on the Lee family’s bad side. I won’t be able to help you.”

Lorinda rolled her eyes. “Why would we get on their bad side? Can you please just say what you mean for once?”

“It’s not about you making them mad. If the Lee family finds out you exist, they’ll make things hard for you.” Amanda tapped the table twice. “You guys have some kind of history with them.”

Lorinda stared, confused. “What?”

“You know about our past,” Catherine blurted out before she could stop herself.

Amanda froze, then shook her head quickly. “No, I really don’t!”

“Then why say we have a feud with them? We just got to Eldervale. We haven’t even met the Lee family before,” Catherine shot back.

Lorinda’s eyes went wide. “Seriously, what are you trying to say?”

Amanda sighed and fell silent for a few seconds, frowning. “Okay, fine. It’s me. I’m the one with a grudge against the Lee family. I just don’t want you two getting caught up in it.”

Catherine didn’t buy it for a second. “I don’t believe you.”

Watching her, Catherine felt a lump in her throat. She wasn’t sure what to say.

“Maybe it’s you,” Lorinda said, turning back and grabbing Catherine’s hand. “The Lee family acts so weird around you. Do you think they recognized you?”

She looked even more worked up than Catherine felt.

Catherine’s face tightened. “Lorinda, calm down.”

They’d started the night in such a good mood, but now this sudden twist had rattled Lorinda.

“I can’t calm down. Finding my family is all I’ve ever wanted. Catherine, you finally have a lead, and it literally came to us. You have to figure out what’s going on!”

She started muttering to herself, already pulling out her phone to look up the Lee family online.

But the stuff she found was nothing compared to what Aaron had managed to dig up. There was nothing unusual at all.

“It’s getting late. Let’s just go home. We’ll skip dinner.”
